Wow! Kangaree was amazing for thirteen Baden Powell Joeys and 4 Leaders! We joined Joey Scouts from all over Victoria and met at Gilwell Park for two days of activities. On the Saturday we arrived on buses and met clowns and circus characters all ready to tack us to "The Big Top" games and activities. First we all received a special Kangaree scarf and a wrist band with out groups colour.......ours was green. After a lot of shuffling we found our sleeping quarters which was a large enclosed shelter in amongst the gum trees. A quick lunch and then off to the opening ceremony. After the HOP we broke off into seperate groups and played a whole heap of games and activities. Our brave Leader Kangaroo placed his head through a hole and all the joeys aimed wet sponges at him. Most missed but some where true to their mark which made for a wet Kangaroo. They did gumboot tossing and lolly smashing, watched a magician and ate popcorn while they listed to a story teller. There was a balloon man and a games arcade with ring toss, bowling and tick-tack-toe. Everyone then moved on to Circus School where we learnt to tumble, balance, juggle and work the hoola hoops (very tricky!) It was now Dinner time and we were all very hungry! Lasagne and salad followed by dessert. All very yummy! Then off to the concert where we watch kangaroos, possums, birds, echidna and frilled neck lizard teaching us all about the bush. Thanks to all the Gang Show members for excellent entertainment. All the tired Joeys (and Leaders) trecked back to our bags and set up all the beds for a well earned rest. We watched Jungle Book and all slept until the Kookaburra alarm went off at 6.30am Sunday and the kookaburras welcomed us to a new morning and we dressed and packed up all our belongings before we had our breakfast. Down came the rain and out came the rain coats and ponchos. We sang Happy Birthday to Heath and had a mini chocolate cake for Heath to take home (sorry Mum and Dad - he ate it for morning tea). After breakfast we went for a bush walk and made it back for closing ceremony. This closing was for the Joey part of the weekend because we still had the "Try Cub Scouts" to head off to....... In beteen the showers the Joey Scouts learnt how to tie a reef knot, play jungle book games, hear a story about Mowgli and make a wolf woggle. Down in a gully they had lots of activities such a riding a barrell on ropes (or a bull if your imagination was switched on) crawl through tunnels and running up a slippery slope with an elastic band pulling you back. Very muddy shoes and pants after that fun All that exercise can make you very hungry so we had hotdogs and icecream for lunch and then onto the bus. Some Joeys slept and other talked and talked and talked. Arrived back in Frankston at 2pm to tell everyone about the cool time we had at kangaree. Well done Joeys. Well done Leaders. A great weekend......
